Fencepost of the Week #35
There are quite a lot of concrete fenceposts in the south east of England, I used to think of them as a wartime / post-war response to timber shortages, but I suppose the raw materials to make concrete posts have always been more readily available round these parts.
Certain lichens seem to do really well on them.
Welcome to Wildeep's Illuminations, a blog of imagery and rumination, fresh from the desktop of Ben Mitchell.

Puffins!
Wildife Wednesday #25
This is just too easy...
This is just too easy...
A lot of the challenge in photographing - even just seeing wildlife stems from how shy and elusive creatures tend to be around humans. So a visit to Lunga - an uninhabited island off the west coast of Mull is a real treat. Here all the nesting sea birds are pretty blasé about the troops of photographers coming round to visit.
Today is all about the puffins, but I took lovely photos of guillemots, razorbills, fulmars and more...

Agaricus urinascens
Monday Mushroom #26
This is a close relative of the field and horse mushroom. It grows much larger than either - caps often reach 25cm diameter. It is stout of build and firm of flesh. Emerging in impressive clusters on pastureland.

Misty Mountains of Sóller, Mallorca
Scenic Sundays #28
Sóller is a beautiful town nestled in a broad valley on on the northern edge of the Mallorcan highlands. The surrounding mountains are these amazing limestone crags, with trees sprouting up wherever they can find a toehold.

Horse Mushroom
Monday Mushroom #25
Rather like field mushrooms, but taller, less scaly and with a distinct aroma of aniseed.

Down South
Fencepost of the Week #34
No Fenceposts of the Week since last November! What can I say - there are few really well rotted fenceposts in the Brighton area. However I did encounter this magnificent example while pottering in the water meadows just south of Lewes this morning.
