This luxuriant outgrowth of lichens is the only fencepost I saw fit to photograph during my peregrinations in South America. It is from Cajas National Park, up in the mountains of Ecuador near the beautiful city of Cuenca.

Killer Fungus
Monday Mushroom #57
This kind of fungus infects and kills (and lives entirely on) insects. Such fungi are particularly prevalent in the warm, dank interior of the rain forest but similar fungi occur even in Britain.
