A handful of venerable pines in Knoydart - John Muir Trust are nurturing a new generation of scots pines in the area.

 Darranacorachs is a long abandoned farmstead deep in the spruce plantations. When I first encountered it (and painted this picture) there were still several buildings and some accompanying scots pines, but both the pines and the buildings have since been smothered in windthrown spruce trees.

Continuing the crepuscular rays theme from Sunday. Again this photo was taken from the JMT work party campsite on the shore of Loch Hourn.

As this amazing blog points out so eloquently, you don't have to journey for days into the wilderness to reap the benefits of an appreciation of nature.

I joined a volunteer work party on the John Muir Trust estate in Knoydart for the last weekend in May. We had a lovely long weekend renovating a footpath and doing some plant surveys.

The weather was pretty bad - strong winds and lots of rain, but I did get some nice, moody landscape photographs - most of them were taken while standing in the entrance to my tent - it was too wet to risk taking my camera outside much.
